Asian movement practices from the perspective of a popping style dancer (Tad Hozumi)
Today we had a thrilling guest presentation from Tad Hozumi, who is an expressive arts therapist, hip hop enthusiast, video/installation/social artist and dee jay.
He presented on his research into Asian movement practices from the perspective of a popping style dancer: at one point in his presentation, he demonstrated the power of the pinky finger by leaning down, having something practically push him down with body weight, then effortlessly throw that person off.
What does this have to do with the humble pinky finger? It has to do with alignment in the body and energy, Tad explained.
“Even the way we dress is colonized,” he said.
